South Kensington has its ivories tickled...

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

From March 22 to 24, the Institut Français in South Kensington, London, will play host to a festival of keyboard music, 'It's All About the Piano!'. Among the artists appearing are Nick van Bloss playing Bach's Goldberg Variations (of whose recording Gramophone wrote 'Nick van Bloss’s stimulating traversal more than merely holds its own'), Imogen Cooper (playing Schubert), Paul Roberts (in a lecture recital focusing on the music of Ravel), Guillaume Vincent (playing Alkan, Rachmaninov and Liszt), Iván Ilic (Pärt, Glass, Satie et al), Cyprien Katsaris (who offers a surprise programme) and Anne Queffélec (whose offers a recital of French music).

There will also be film screenings, including one of Poulenc's La voix humaine performed in the rarely encountered version for voice and piano by Dame Felicity Lott and Graham Johnson (to be released as a DVD by Champs Hill Records). Following the screening on March 22, Dame Felicity and Graham Johnson will talk about the work and answer questions from the audience at an event hosted by Gramophone's Editor in Chief.
